Find Umbrella Insurance from Klinger Insurance Group

As a business owner, buying commercial umbrella insurance can help you to protect your assets and ensure the continued operations of the company in the event of a disaster or legal action that results in a substantial settlement. It gives you additional liability protection that can apply when the limits of your commercial insurance are exceeded.

At Klinger Insurance, we have decades of collective experience providing local businesses with umbrella insurance for their company. We can offer guidance and provide you with tailored quotes that suit the individual needs of your business.

What is commercial umbrella insurance?

Business umbrella insurance is a form of additional liability coverage that will extend beyond the limits of your existing liability policies. If your company is sued, and your standard liability policies don’t offer enough coverage, it can give you extra protection and cover any additional amounts that need to be paid out once your existing liability policies have been maxed-out.

The benefits of buying commercial umbrella insurance

  • Extend the limits of your liability coverage across numerous policies
  • A more cost-effective way to increase your liability limits
  • Reduce your financial exposure to a significant claim
  • Enable you to meet any contractual terms from a financial institution, landlord, client or supplier

What is covered by commercial umbrella insurance?

Umbrella insurance for your business will cover a range of other liability policies by serving as a broad level type of protection. You will need to have an underlying commercial liability policy in place first, and should the limits on those policies be reached; then your umbrella insurance can then be activated to help you cover any additional amounts up to the limit on your umbrella business coverage.

Please note that commercial umbrella insurance will not cover every type of liability. For instance, it will not extend the limits of your professional liability coverage.

At Klinger Insurance, our experienced commercial insurance agents have an in-depth knowledge of the commercial insurance market. After an initial discussion about your business, your agent will obtain multiple quotes on your behalf for the best commercial umbrella insurance options.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is umbrella insurance the same as excess liability insurance?

No, they are not the same. When you buy commercial umbrella insurance, you will need to pay a SIR before your coverage pays out, and the coverage will apply to multiple commercial insurance policies. When you buy excess liability coverage, there is no SIR to be paid, and coverage is only offered for a single underlying insurance policy. So, while both can you cover losses that go beyond the limits of your policy, the structure of those policies is quite different.

  • What is not covered by a commercial umbrella insurance policy?

Most commercial umbrella insurance policies will not cover worker’s compensation, professional liability, product recalls, EPLI, or war and terrorism liability claims.

  • How much commercial umbrella insurance do you need?

The lowest amount of coverage you can purchase is $1 Million, but your individual limits should be discussed with one of our umbrella insurance agents. They will take into account the nature and risks of your work when they provide you with a quote for your business umbrella insurance. In some cases, your landlord, bank, or client might ask you to buy a specified amount of coverage too.

  • Why should you buy business umbrella insurance?

In some cases, you will be asked to buy a specified amount of liability coverage, and rather than extended the limits of your commercial general liability coverage; umbrella insurance is usually a more cost-effective way to do this while still meeting your contractual obligations. It can offer peace of mind and give you a financial barrier in the event of a costly lawsuit.

  • Who needs commercial umbrella insurance?

Regardless of your industry or the work you do, having additional protection in place is always a sound choice. However, for companies who carry enhanced financial risks, such as those with a high footfall of people, there is a greater need for this extra coverage. If you want to cover exclusions on an existing liability policy or you simply want higher liability limits at a low-cost, you can benefit from buying umbrella insurance for your business.
